Every spring, Washington, D.C. bursts into color during the National Cherry Blossom Festival—and this year, we finally made it! With the city’s popularity during festival season, we knew hotel availability could be a challenge, especially with three of us traveling.
That’s why we opted for the King Suite at Homewood Suites by Hilton in Springfield, Virginia—and it ended up being the perfect home base for our adventure.
A Spacious & Comfortable Stay
The King Suite was more than just a place to sleep—it was a cozy and functional retreat after long days of exploring. The suite easily accommodated all three of us, thanks to a spacious layout and a comfortable sleeping arrangement. What truly made it feel like home was the full kitchen, which included:
-
A full-size refrigerator
-
Microwave
-
Sink and dishwasher
-
Cabinets stocked with dishes and utensils
Whether it was storing snacks, reheating leftovers, or making a quick breakfast before heading out, the kitchen setup was a total win.
A nice space to eat or do work.
The couch pulls out into a full size bed. Linens were available in the closet and plenty of space for my 12 year old niece.
King size bed, plenty of room for 2 adults.
A Note on the Bathroom
The only minor drawback was the bathroom vanity. It was a bit on the small side for two women sharing cosmetics and toiletries. That said, it would have been perfectly fine if it were just me and my husband.
Perks That Made the Difference
The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and helpful from the moment we checked in. When we asked for dinner recommendations, they pointed us to a nearby spot that ended up being both close and delicious—a great start to our stay!
Other perks we enjoyed:
-
Complimentary coffee in the lobby every day
-
Hot breakfast available each morning
-
A safe, quiet location with easy access to D.C. by car or Metro
- Happy Hour
- A variety of places to lounge in the main lobby
- Fitness Room & Laundry Room
Parking & Practical Info
Parking is $15 per day and is paid through a separate app—not a big deal once we figured it out, but something to keep in mind. The hotel doesn’t have a pool, which wasn’t a dealbreaker for us, but worth noting if you're traveling with kids.
There is a shopping center across the street, within walking distance that has a Whole Foods, Giant and other restaurants.
A Few Hiccups
No trip is perfect, and we did run into two small issues during our Tuesday–Saturday stay:
-
The hot water went out on Friday night, which meant cold showers all around.
-
One of the elevators broke mid-trip, so there were occasional waits or the option to take the stairs.
Thankfully, these hiccups didn’t overshadow our overall positive experience.
Final Thoughts
If you’re planning a trip to D.C.—especially during a busy time like the Cherry Blossom Festival—and want an affordable, comfortable, and convenient place to stay with room for a group, we’d definitely recommend Homewood Suites in Springfield, VA. It gave us space to relax, helpful staff to guide us, and easy access to all the beauty of D.C. in bloom.
