I recently had the pleasure of working with a beautiful linen fabric gifted by Fashion Fabrics Club, and I couldn’t wait to share this latest sewing project with you! The fabric features a striking white and turquoise geometric pattern, and at $18/yd, it’s an absolute dream to work with. The linen is incredibly soft with a lovely drape, making it perfect for this dress design. I even had enough to make hubby a matching bow tie.
The Dress Design
This dress stands out because of its unique combination of features that come together for a sophisticated yet comfortable look. It has:
- A modest neckline gives it a classic and timeless feel.
- Banded kimono sleeves add a touch of structure and elegance.
- A high waistband that cinches the waist for a flattering silhouette.
- Pockets —because a dress without pockets is just not complete!
- The gathered, tea-length skirt falls beautifully, giving the dress a flowy, feminine vibe.
- A back zipper closure to keep the lines clean and simple.
- It’s also fully lined in cotton, ensuring comfort while adding structure to the dress.
Why Linen?
Linen is one of my favorite fabrics to work with, especially when it’s as soft as this one. The breathability of the fabric makes it perfect for warmer days, while the geometric pattern adds a bold touch that still feels sophisticated. The turquoise against the white is such a refreshing color combination, making this piece stand out in any wardrobe.
Styling the Look
To complete the look, I styled my hair in a flat twist updo and wore turquoise drop earrings that matched the geometric pattern on the fabric. This hairstyle highlights the neckline and earrings without taking attention away from the bold print of the dress. To complete the look, I added my favorite Mary Jane shoes from ModCloth. I’ve had these shoes for years, and the iridescent brocade material always gives my outfits a touch of elegance. The shoes bring a retro vibe to the dress, making the whole ensemble feel both modern and classic.
Should I Add This Dress to My Etsy Shop?
Now, here’s the question I’ve been mulling over—should I add this dress to my Etsy shop? The combination of the elegant design, the stunning fabric, and the flattering fit make it a potential favorite for customers looking for something unique and handmade. I’d love to hear your thoughts! Should I offer this dress as a made-to-order item in my shop? Let me know what you think in the comments below!
Final Thoughts
This project was a joy to work on, and the combination of the soft linen fabric with the structured design elements makes it a piece I’ll cherish for a long time. Fashion Fabrics Club truly came through with this beautiful linen, and I’m already thinking of new projects to make with similar fabrics.
